How many Pilates classes does it take to see results?

Pilates classes provide excellent toning and resistance training and can be done by people at all ages and levels of fitness.  Just like with any form of exercise, if you practice Pilates several times a week, you’ll most likely see results after a few short months.

Yet the results you get from Pilates are much deeper and all-encompassing than the most types of workouts. One of the most popular quotes from Joseph Pilates addresses how many Pilates classes it takes to see a difference:

“In 10 sessions, you will feel the difference. In 20, you will see the difference. And in 30, you’ll be on your way to having a whole new body.”

Joseph was emphatic about CONSISTENCY, and how a regular practice can do more than just tone and lean out your body. What we’ve found through working with clients at our Pilates studio and through our own personal practices is that in the first 5 sessions, you start to gain a greater awareness of your body. Your posture begins to improve, which elongates your silhouette, your breath will become more focused and you may start to alleviate muscle soreness and back pain. With continued practice, you’ll see increased muscle tone and definition, and will feel different in the way you move in everyday activities—plus, your posture will continue to improve.

Keep in mind that there are several other factors that play a role in how fast you see results from taking Pilates classes or private sessions. For example, proper nutrition makes up at least 80 percent of the equation when it comes to fitness and health—this is why it’s so essential to arm yourself with up-to-date nutrition information. How often you practice also contributes to how fast you see and feel a change in your body, as well as the intensity of your workouts. When you focus on form and breath, challenge yourself with each session, and integrate the six principles of Pilates each time you exercise, you’ll see changes faster than if you approach it with less intensity and take lots of breaks.
