In addition to attending classes or doing reformer Pilates workouts, there are a few tips that you can implement to help you transcend your practice from the studio into daily life. Keep them in mind when you’re performing all of your daily activities.
1. Stand tall. Always draw into your centerline—think taller, leaner, longer. Engage your core during all exercises and in daily activities until it becomes a regular habit. After awhile, instead of slouching, you’ll automatically engage your abs and powerhouse, resulting in a leaner, slimmer appearance and a core to be reckoned with.
2. Eliminate the hunch. Many people hunch their shoulders when sitting at a desk all day or performing other regular activities, which can result in many painful physical conditions, from tendonitis to back strain. Instead of giving into the hunch, allow your chest to open and pull your shoulders back and down. Check yourself whenever you’re sitting at your computer, driving, standing and walking and make the adjustment until it comes naturally. This will help prevent strain on other parts of your body, while improving your posture and bestowing your with a more graceful appearance.
3. Stay neutral. Neutral spine is a fundamental part of having a healthy body. Always strive to keep your spine are in proper alignment—think of lengthening your body, using your core to stand upright. Your pelvic bone should be lined up with your hip bones, with your tailbone pointing downward, as opposed to sticking out.
